Christianity had been practised in Ireland since at least the 2nd century AD, but from the late 5th century it became more widespread, presumably due to people converting.
Apart from the spread of a new religion, people’s lifestyles were similar to the centuries before: they mostly lived in small rural settlements, sustaining themselves by farming, fishing and some hunting; there was trade with Britain and probably a lot of people moving between the east coast of Ireland and the west coast of Britain, particularly Wales.
